MARK Collier’s Chippenham Town soared to a record equalling 9-0 win over Moneyfields in this weekend’s FA Cup action.

Three goals from David Pratt, braces from Alan Griffin and Andy Sandell plus efforts from Alex Ferguson and Mark Preece matched the club record FA Cup win against Devizes Town, set in the first season after World War Two.

“Records are there to be broken, our aim at five to three was to be in the hat on Monday and we have done that, we kept a clean sheet and scored nine so it was a good day for us,” said a content Collier.

“We can hope for a home draw but we are happy with what we are given - we are a force at home and we are a force away so we shouldn’t really fear anyone.

“I’m delighted, we were playing a team who haven’t lost a game. I know they are a couple of leagues below us but they obviously have a competitive edge about them.

“We have managed to put them to the sword in no uncertain terms, we scored some very good individual goals and some very good team goals.

“I wanted the players to show the supporters that there is a gulf between the two divisions and that is exactly what we have done.

“We wanted to get through, that was the criteria, and I said there will be some shocks in this round of the FA Cup and we can’t be one of them.”

Despite hitting their visitors for nine, Collier believes it could have been more. He also praised striker Alan Griffin for his two goals from the bench.

“We missed a couple of chances but to say we were ruthless is an understatement, we are playing with a lot of confidence we were too good for the opposition,” he added.

“We forget that Griffin is a proven goal scorer at this level, he’s come on and scored two fantastic finishes.

“He’s normally known for scoring in the box but his first one he bent into the top corner and the other one - he was in the centre circle - saw the keeper off his line and scored.

“David Pratt is always going to score goals, Andy Sandell is always going to score goals, they’re very good players but we are chipping in from all over the pitch which is pleasing.”

Collier’s men are back in action next Saturday when they travel to ProEdge Westwood road to face St Ives Town.
