SHRIVENHAM were 4-2 winners against Cirencester Town Development to take them just three points off of the early pace setters Hook Norton.

The hosts rushed into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Matty Pedder and Lance Lewis, however, Cirencester hit back with a goal of their own.

At 2-1, it was Ryan Wilkinson who managed to put daylight between the two sides, but again the visitors came back to make it 3-2, before Lewis doubled up to make it 4-2.

“It was a good win, we played reasonably well and took our chances - it was good. Cirencester are a good side, they move the ball around well but we kept our shape and scored four good goals,” said McNally.

“We needed the fourth to kill the game. As well as we played defensively, we were a bit off it and they caused us problems.

“Considering the conditions, we dug in and probably just about deserved the three points. It wasn’t an overwhelming performance but it was a performance where we dug in and got another three points.”

Despite the win, McNally still believes his team still have more to show, but is encouraged as they continue to pick up points.

“I think we still haven’t clicked but you can’t look into that too much today, we had about seven out who are normally involved,” claimed the Shrivenham manager.

“It’s encouraging. In my eyes, from experience, if you’re not playing great and still winning, especially scoring four goals, you’re doing something right.

“Many a year we see teams not playing great but still winning one nil or two nil so we’ll take that all day long.

“It’s all good, I’m happy with the team today and I would have taken one nil at the start of the game but we’ve come out with a 4-2 result, things are looking up.”
