HIGHWORTH’S good Hellenic League Premier Division form continued as they recorded an impressive 6-1 win over Burnham to make it three wins on the bounce.

In the absence of their manager Jeff Roberts, Highworth put together a strong performance at home as they raced into an early lead when Bradley Clark, Aysa Corrick and Keiron Gleed put them 3-0 up inside 25 minutes.

Burnham got one back when midfielder Matt Jenkins gave away a penalty, with the resultant spot-kick dispatched with ease by Jason Parsons, just before half an hour in.

Three minutes later Ryan Stanners restored the Worthians’ three-goal advantage.

The second half was a scrappy affair until new signing Chris Taylor tucked away a fine free kick with 15 minutes left to go.

Stanners then doubled his tally at the death to seal a 6-1 win.

Assistant manager Drew Youngsam was pleased with his team’s performance, but admitted there is room for improvement.

“We kept the ball well, and then I think we dropped a little bit, we dropped the pace to their level which we know not to do,'' he told the Adver.

“Aysa (Corrick) is on fire at the minute, scoring the goals, midfielders, wingers all scoring goals (but) they can still do a lot better.

“Instead of taking a touch, just putting their foot through the ball sometimes, but it’s good to see different players scoring goals.”

The game saw former Swindon Supermarine duo Taylor and Ashley Edenborough get on the pitch, which is only a plus in the eyes of Youngsam.

“Chris Taylor scored, it was a great free kick. He’s a new addition and he brings experience to the side,” he added.

“His general football play, he can see all over the pitch, he spreads the ball wherever he is and he brings a lot of energy as well.

“It’s good to have Edenborough back, not just because of how he plays, but how good he is and his experience, team morale he brings a lot of that too.”

Royal Wootton Bassett also managed a win, winning 4-1 away at Longlevens AFC with goals from Steve Robertson, Henry Spalding and two for Lewis Thompson.
