PURTON manager Justin Miller claims consistency is the key as his team look to force a change in fortunes ahead of their clash with Abingdon United.

Last Saturday, Miller’s men played out a goalless draw at Shortwood United Reserves, their first clean sheet of the season.

Now the Red House boss is hoping a consistency within the squad will help them gain the same on the field as they search for their second win of the season in Division One West.

“We just need a settled group of players, at the beginning of the season we were making five or six changes,” said the Purton manager.

“We don’t do that now so we are hoping with everyone settled we will have more consistent results.

“We are always hoping for a win, last week against Shortwood we were unlucky but we kept a clean sheet which is good defensively as we hadn’t done that so far.

“The second half we had chances again but didn’t take them, we just need to be a little bit more clinical against Abingdon.”

Other than Ed Herbert, who is out with a knee injury, Miller will have a full squad to pick from ahead of the game.

Fairford return to league action after spending their last two fixtures on cup duty.

They will face Easington Sports at Cider Lane as they look to continue their fine start to the season.

Last weekend, goals from Dan Drewett, Jack Ellis and Lee Smith helped them overcome a 2-1 deficit to claim a late 3-2 win over Chipping Sodbury Town in the FA Vase.

Shrivenham will be hoping they can put their Vase woes behind them against North Leigh after they were dumped out by Abbey Rangers in extra time on Saturday.

With it all square at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes, with Levi Cox and Lance Lewis notching, Michael McNally’s team were forced to go into extra time where Abbey Rangers grabbed a goal to win the game 3-2.

New College Swindon weren’t in Vase action last weekend and they recorded an impressive 5-3 away win against Cheltenham Saracens.

A hat-trick from Antonio Gerrish and a double from Alex Fenton was enough to claim all three points for Matt Cosnett’s team who will play Cirencester Town Development at the Webbs Wood Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile in the Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett will be aiming to show a reaction when they welcome Flackwell Heath to the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Rich Hunter’s team were 3-1 losers away to Tuffley Rovers, in-form Steve Robertson got the consolation, his sixth goal in the last five games.
