SWINDON Supermarine chairman Jez Webb would be surprised if manager Dave Webb isn’t in the dugout for this week’s FA Cup tie with Farnborough.

The Supermarine boss had been linked with a move to Cirencester Town following the dismissal of Brian Hughes last weekend.

However, Marine chairman Webb told the Advertiser that he wouldn’t expect his manager to move on.

“I’ve seen a lot of links, but there has been no approach from Cirencester. We’ve spoken about it and he hasn’t been approached,” said chairman Webb.

“He appreciates what we are doing off the pitch as well as on the pitch he sees it as a very exciting place to be. I would be very surprised if he wanted to leave for any club.”

Despite only hearing about the link to the vacant Centurions’ post on Tuesday, chairman Webb admits it’s not a surprise people are linking his manager to other jobs.

“I certainly wasn’t surprised, Dave’s knowledge of football is second to none and he has one of the best names in non-league football,” he added.

“He’s very capable. It’s important we keep hold of him because he understands the way I want to take the club forward.

“There is no friction. He’s got us to the play-offs three times in the last four seasons, we would be very keen to hold on to him.

“I’m not saying there won’t be an approach, I would be surprised if he joined any another club because of what is happening at Supermarine. There is a good feel factor up there.”

Meanwhile, the man in question is firmly focused on this weekend’s tie against Southern League Division One Central leaders Farnborough.

“We are all looking forward to it, we had a good performance and a good win on Tuesday against Shortwood United,” said boss Webb.

“The players have been superb, we deserve this chance to progress and we are playing a good side in Farnborough “Looking at their (Farnborough’s) squad they have some excellent players and are top of their league, looking to go through the levels.

“We are fully aware of what they pose, but we are looking forward to it we’ve won two games and we are desperate to make it three. We know we’ll have to be at our best to beat them, but we couldn’t go into the game on better form.”
