SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb hailed Saturday’s 1-0 win over Farnborough in the FA Cup as a perfect performance.

Connor Waldon’s 68th minute goal was enough to earn Webb’s team a place in the draw for the third qualifying round.

Manager Webb could not hide his delight after seeing his side keep Marine’s FA Cup dream alive.

“It was a fantastic day for the football club. We played some of our best stuff and it had to be against Farnborough because they are an excellent side,” said Webb.

“We knew how good they were, we paid them respect but we didn’t get overawed. We asked to players to go out an express themselves and they certainly did that.

“They had their moments but we defended brilliantly. It was a perfect day, a perfect performance and the players deserve great credit.”

After finishing the first half 0-0, it was Waldon who managed to get the all-important goal when he linked up well with Callum Parsons before his right-footed shot found the back of the net.

“In the first half they (Farnborough) were a little bit better than us but we got into it and just couldn’t get anything on the keeper,” said Webb.

“Connor (Waldon) has had some lovely play with Callum (Parsons). I thought he was going to pass but he took it on himself and it was a great finish.”

Waldon is one of many youngsters in the Supermarine squad, something Webb thinks is pivotal to their success so far.

“The squad is excellent. We’ve assembled a young and exciting group of players and they’re working hard” added the Marine boss.

“We’re starting to see the rewards on the pitch. We have real quality, the future is bright at the club.

“I’m looking forward to the draw. We don’t know what we are going to get but we want a winnable game at home if we can. We’ve won three games and we are desperate to make it four now.”

Supermarine will now revert their attention back to the league as they prepare to host Taunton next weekend.
