LOWER Stratton are proving to be a four-ce to be reckoned with this season after scoring 15 goals in their opening two matches in Division One.

Alan Spring’s men started their Swindon & District League campaign with an 11-3 win against New Town All Stars a fortnight ago and they followed up on Saturday by dispatching Chiseldon 4-0.

The win puts them second in the early season standings, with Stratton Juniors, who welcome Spring’s side to Meadowcroft at the weekend, leading the way.

Lower Stratton had a good chance to break the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty, however, Jamie Saunders, sent his spot kick into orbit.

While Spring was retrieving the ball, his team went 1-0 up with Chiseldon turning the ball into their own net.

Saunders, who netted four in the opening game of the campaign, atoned for his penalty miss before the break when he made it 2-0.

After the interval, Lower Stratton were forced to battle hard to make the game safe with some patient build-up play in both their goals in the second half with Diogo Casiniro and Will Hooton on hand to finish off the respective moves.

“It has been a good start,” said the Lower Stratton manager Spring. “But it is just that a start.

“On Saturday, we faced a physical but fair side in Chiseldon and I thought they were unlucky not to score.

“I missed our first goal because I was getting the ball after Jamie’s penalty, I think it was on the way to the moon as it went that high.

“The last two goals, involved some good passing and Diogo and Will were there to finish it off.

“It sets us up nicely for the Stratton derby on Saturday – they are top at the moment.”

Stratton Juniors made it three from three with a 3-0 win at Marlborough Reserves thanks to goals from Danny Ballinger, Ryan Major and Callum Cook.

Elsewhere in Division One, New Town All Stars edged out Core Construction 3-2 and Yasuhiro Ohno’s four goals set-up Haydon Wick’s 6-2 with at Swindon AFC.

In the Premier Division, reigning champions Tawny Owl romped to an 11-1 success over Spectrum with both Jack Allan and Kenny Hawkins netting four apiece.

Deers Leap picked up their first win of the campaign in style as they sank Village Inn 9-0 with Adam Jack netting a hat-trick.

Elsewhere, FC Dorcan and North Swindon shared the spoils in an eight-goal thriller, Swindon Centurians defeated Bassett Bulldogs 3-2 and Swindon Spitfires and Sports Central played out a 1-1 draw.
