CRICKLADE Park Rangers are enjoying their most successful cup run in their history after they booked their place in the third round of the Chairman Trophy.

Manager Eddie Knight said that he was delighted with his team’s performance in their 8-2 win at Division Five rivals Northern Lights.

“It was fantastic. I wasn’t surprised it went so well because we prepared well for the game and the lads did the business,” said Knight. “It could have been even more.

“In the first half a couple of my boys could have had hat-tricks but the opposition battled and defended reasonably well at times.

“The most pleasing thing about it is it’s our biggest result in a while and it is the furthest we have gone in the club’s history.

“Every other season we’ve been knocked out in the first round, so getting to the third round is our best cup run.”

Two goals from Ryan Jones and Josh Baverstock, plus efforts from Gary Ellison, Tom Butcher and Jake Hart ensured the result was a comfortable one.

AFC Cricklade also booked their place in the next round with a 13-3 away win over Rudis, while Coleshill Youth secured their place by beating Swindon Rovers 7-1 at home.

AFC Gas and Deers Leap join them in the next round after their respective 4-2 wins over Chilli Shak and Purton Redhouse.

Haydon secured their spot in the third round by thumping Rodbourne Real 8-3, while, Jovial Monk edged through after a seven-goal thriller against Crown.

However, Moovahome and Save on Tyres Athletic were left disappointed as they both lost 4-2 to Nationwide and Eldene respectively.

In league action, Division Two’s Cleeve Tech, DH Fitness and DPR all claimed three points this weekend, with the former beating Your Sport Swindon 3-2, Woodlands Edge losing 4-1 away at DH Fitness and Wanborough slipping to a 4-1 home defeat to DPR.
