SWINDON Supermarine crashed out of the FA Cup after they suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat at Welling United.

Their National League South hosts made a good start to this third qualifying round tie when Adam Coombes latched on to a through ball before slotting the ball past Connor Johns in the Supermarine net.

Callum Parsons then evened the game up when his left-footed drive found the bottom right corner to make the game 1-1.

However, the Wings then got away from Marine as they went on to score another six goals. By the end of the game, Coombes had completed a double hat-trick, while Pierre Joseph-Dubois joined him on the scoresheet.

Marine manager Dave Webb admitted he was disappointed with the result.

“We did everything properly and our preparation was good, so it wasn’t what we were expecting,” he said.

“Welling are an excellent side. Everything clicked for them on the day and one of their lads scored six goals.

“I feel sorry for Connor Johns because he has conceded seven but if it wasn’t for him, it could have been double figures.”

Webb was also keen to draw a line under the defeat.

“To put it into perspective, we are playing a team who are two levels above us,” the Marine chief said.

“They’re an exceptional side. We need to get together and pick ourselves up.

“It’s not a time for feeling sorry for ourselves, this team is a young side and they have to show character.

“It’s a team game, you defend from the front. We created some good opportunities but you can’t do what we did on Saturday and push a team close.

“The quality of the opposition and the way they played certainly showed why they’re in the league they are in, we didn’t deal with that properly.”
