SHREWTON United remain at the top of the Wiltshire Senior League table after picking up a 4-1 win over Marlborough Town Reserves.

Craig Lewis gave Shrewton a half-time lead when he found the back of the net with a low left-footed effort.

It then took until the 70th minute for the next goal to arrive, with Lewis adding another to his tally, this time from the penalty spot after Ryan Banks was shown a straight red card.

Two minutes later, James Dolman made it 3-0 after a swift counter attack, although the lead was then reduced to two when Devan Bryan scored for Marlborough.

However, Shrewton had the last word when John Jackson bundled home a fourth.

Shrewton chief Scott Young said: “It was a very good result. It should have been a lot more as we probably missed about seven one-on-ones.

“One of our centre forwards managed to miss on the goal line - he managed to hit the corner flag with no one around him.

“It was harder than it should have been. It was frustrating to watch but it is good we are creating these chances.

“We have converted four of them and although we could have converted a lot more, we still wrapped up all three points.

“We should have been out of sight a lot earlier. We should have been three or four up in the first half and made it easier for ourselves."

Wiltshire Calne Town were 3-1 winners away at Malmesbury Victoria Development, while Pewsey Vale Development lost 1-0 at Bromham.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves and Melksham Town Reserves also claimed all three points as the former beat Cricklade Town 3-2, while the latter saw off Devizes Town 5-2.

Corsham and Wroughton were in Wiltshire Senior Cup action, the latter coming out as 4-3 winners, while Beversbrook overcame Trowbridge Town 5-3.
