RODBOURNE Real were convincing winners this weekend as they thrashed Wanborough 9-0 at home in Division Two.

The victory was the second in a row for Rodbourne, whose boss Jon Reeves was delighted with the result.

“It was one-sided. We played really well but they (Wanborough) turned up with the bare 11 and we just put them to the sword,” said Reeves.

“We scored some good goals and we were really clinical at times. It was a really good victory, we played well.

“We hit the bar two or three times as well, it was just one of those days where everything went right for us.

“To get a clean sheet too was good because we haven’t been doing that much in the last few weeks.

“The most pleasing thing about it was the way the players followed what I asked them to do. They followed it to the letter and knocked it about a bit."

Reeves has been especially pleased with the depth of his squad, saying competition for places can only be a good thing.

“We have a young side with a few older heads. We have quite a strong squad it’s the strongest one we have had for a while,” he added.

“Our squad has 25 or 26 signed on, which is more than we have had in a long time. Last year we were struggling to get people on the bench.

“The most pleasing thing for me is the competition for places. People know they have to turn up and play well or they’ll be replaced.”

In Division One, Greyhound were 2-1 winners over Deers Leap as they maintained their perfect start to the season.

There were four matches in Division Three, the highlight coming from Crown as they thrashed Moovahome 13-1.

Eldene and Cricklade played out a 4-4 draw, while Purton Freshbrook and Haydon were both 4-2 winners over Croft Junior and Stratton Saints respectively.

Haydon’s win means they move to the top of the table with a total of seven points from their opening three games.

Coleshill Youth and Athletico Marlborough's clash in Division Four was the only fixture to end in a draw as it finished 3-3.

Nationwide claimed a comfortable 7-1 win over Swindon Athletic, while Smart Movers defeated Gorsehill Borough 9-2.

Despite their draw, Athletico Marlborough remain the early pace-setters as they currently sit four points clear.

In Division Five, Paxton House United were 8-1 winners away at Northern Lights, while Save the Tyres also got an away win as they saw off Swindon Rovers 5-0.

Purton Red House and Cricklade United both slipped to 4-2 defeats against Highworth Town Sunday and Sevenfield United respectively.
