SUPERMARINE manager Dave Webb claims his team can have no complaints after losing 3-1 to Evesham United at the Webbs Wood.

Webb’s side, who were boosted by the arrival of Jon Beeden from Chippenham Town, got off to a sloppy start when they found themselves a goal down six minutes into the first half after Liam Harding headed home.

However, the hosts were then able to draw level from the spot when Connor Waldon and George Reid combined and the latter was brought down in the box, allowing Brad Hooper to tuck away the resultant penalty.

They then went into the break at 1-1 but the second half was similar to the first as Marine found themselves behind in the 54th minute to a Lance Smith effort.

The visitors were then able to strike again late on as they killed the game off, Elliot Kennedy adding his name to the score sheet to make it 3-1.

“It was a great header for their first. It was right in the top corner there was nothing that Connor Johns could have done about it.

“You could say we should have been tighter from the set-piece but we managed to get level from the penalty.

“Unfortunately, we conceded the second goal and then they scored with the last kick of the game to finish it off.

Manager Webb insisted his team were well beaten after being dominated by Evesham.

“It was a difficult day for us, really. We knew how good Evesham were. They’re definitely one of the most equipped sides for promotion,” said the Supermarine chief.

“I knew that before the game and I said we would have to be at the top of our game. Unfortunately we failed to take our chances.

“When we were in good positions to potentially create a scoring opportunity, we didn’t pick the right pass.

“Credit to Evesham. They came to us and thoroughly deserved to win. There are no excuses from me. We didn’t do enough to win the game.

“Sometimes, playing good football isn’t enough. You need to be able to do more than that. Evesham were very dominant in terms of the aggression they showed in the game.”
