ROB Lincoln’s second-half double was enough to claim all three points for Shrivenham in a 2-0 win over Shortwood United Reserves.

After going into the break at 0-0, it was Lincoln who claimed both goals for Michael McNally’s side, the first coming in the 52nd minute before the Shrivvy man added his second with 15 minutes to go.

“It was a fantastic performance and result, which was fully deserved,” said the Shrivenham boss.

"There wasn’t a lot in it to be honest. For the first half, it was 0-0. Both teams were getting the ball down and playing well.

“We probably could have gone into the break a goal or two up, Kias (Bonner-Shea) missed a couple of good chances.

“The back four were outstanding. They didn’t put a foot wrong but then you have to credit the players in front of them for doing their job.

“The whole team are working for each other, which is really pleasing for me to see. They’re putting their bodies on the line and it is good to watch.

“They (Shortwood) probably started as the brighter side, but the second half was much better. We came out with more intent and scored two cracking goals.”

This was a third straight win for McNally’s Shrivenham, who are now up to fourth in the Division One West table.

“We are doing really well. Individually and as a team. there is an awful lot of belief that they can keep going on this run,” added McNally.

“We haven’t got any superstars in this team. We have 18 or 19 lads who are all singing off of the same hymn sheet.

“I have 95 per cent of the team who were here last year and I think this year, they have the belief they can keep scoring."

Elsewhere in Division One West, Fairford Town climbed to the top of the table after claiming a 2-1 win over Cirencester Town Development.

Gareth Davies’ side went behind in the 55th minute after Danny Gudger fired the ball in from distance 10 minutes into the second half.

But Fairford were able to turn things around back shortly after when Lee Smith got two late in the second half to claim a 2-1 win at Cinder Lane.

New College can take the positives out of their result this weekend as they drew 0-0 with Tytherington Rocks.

Not only did the draw end their five-game losing streak, it also marked their first clean of the season.
