FAIRFORD Town boss Gareth Davies wants his team to forget about last week’s first round FA Vase exit when they travel to Woodstock Town.

Last time out, an early slip-up cost Davies’ side as they lost 2-1 at home to Andover Town but the Fairford manager is now looking for a reaction from his players.

“We can’t dwell on the Vase game. We have got Woodstock next and we just need to draw a line under it and get on with it. It’s done and it’s gone, and we just look forward to the next game,” said manager Davies.

“We said to the players after that game: ‘We have been scoring lots of goals but not every team is going to roll over for you. It’s not going to happen like that. You’ve got to roll your sleeves up. Some teams are going to frustrate you and you need to bide your time’.”

Despite that, Davies doesn’t want his team to get complacent as he knows they will still have to win ugly.

The Cinder Lane boss said: “It doesn’t matter whether it’s against top-of-the-league or bottom-of-the-league. The performance has to be good enough.

“The players have set the standard now and they need to adhere to that. It’s just about going out and being professional and getting the points on the board.

“At times this season, we’ve been outstanding but sometimes, you have to win ugly. The most important thing is that it’s about going out and doing the job.”

This weekend’s game presents the perfect chance for Fairford to get back into the swing of things as they could return to the top of the Hellenic League Division One table.

Davies’ side currently sit second in the league, two points behind leaders Hook Norton, who have amassed 27 points from their opening 10 games.

Elsewhere, Justin Miller’s Purton will be looking to build on their 3-0 success over local rivals Shrivenham when they travel to 12th-placed Letcombe.

Both New College and Shrivvy have a rare weekend off before they get back in action next weekend against Easington Sports and Milton United respectively.
