SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb won’t be pressing any panic buttons after watching his side fall to back-to-back defeats at home in the league for the first time this season.

Winchester City were the visitors on Saturday and goals in each half condemned the hosts to a 2-0 defeat at the Webbswood Stadium.

Winchester, who sent an early warning sign when they struck the post in the fifth minute, took the lead in the 39th minute when Craig Feeney poked the ball under the body of Connor Johns.

Marine pushed for a way back into the contest, with Josh Parsons and Connor Waldon both coming off the bench, but the visitors caught them on the break with seven minutes remaining, Stu Green providing the finish.

“It’s a hard one to take really,” said Webb. “I’m disappointed that that is back-to-back games that we have lost at home.

“I thought, after the good comeback in the week, we would be at it and put on a better show in front of our home supporters.

“You set your standard by the way you play at home and you try to get results away from home.

“On Saturday, we just never got going and it is disappointing for everyone.

“I said in the pre-match that Winchester were in a false position and they showed that.

“We just weren’t at it again.

“It wasn’t easy, Connor Waldon had a knock in the week, Jack Alexander had a knock as well and we decided to go with players who are 100 per cent fit.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and we made changes to risk those players who were injured to get us back in the game but it didn’t come off.”

The loss saw Marine drop out of the play-off picture to sixth in the Division One South & West table but Webb is not worried about the recent drop in form which has seen them pick up just one point from their last three league outings.

“We are where we are and we have got to take stock of that,” he added.

“I’ll have the players in twice this week and we need to get back to doing the basics.

“We need to get back to what we are good at and what we did so well at the start of the season.

“You don’t get in the top five by luck, you get there by being a reasonable team.

“This team maybe young but it has got a lot of quality. When it doesn’t go right, like Saturday, when we weren’t good enough, we get beaten.”
