FAIRFORD Town manager Gareth Davies was pleased to be able to give Richard Hadgkiss a fitting send off as they completed a 7-0 Division One West demolition of Cheltenham Saracens.

The former Fairford manager and player passed away early last week and a minute’s silence was held in his memory prior to the game at Cinder Lane.

When play got underway, it was a straight-forward affair for Davies’ troops as a first-half brace from Levi Cox put the hosts in control at the break.

Josh Morse then netted twice after the break before Cox completed his hat-trick, taking his tally to six in his first two games for the club.

Lee Smith converted from the spot on the hour before he got his second two minutes from time to complete the rout.

“It was a bit surreal if I am honest, with the stuff to remember Richard,” said Davies.

“It was tough going into the game with everything that surrounded it and Richard’s family were at the game.

“We did say to the players before the game, if we could give them something to take from it then at least we have done our bit.

“Once we got going, we were at it from the first minute and as the game went on we just grew.

“It was Levi’s home debut as well and he couldn’t have marked that any better. The way we play, it suits him down to a tee and he has come in and just got on with it.

“Going forward, we just look like scoring and everyone is chipping in with the goals and at the back, we have been superb.

“Clean sheets win you games, but the odd goal here or there certainly help.”

Fairford sit top of Division West and have netted 21 goals in their last three outings but Davies is not getting carried away having seen last season’s campaign unravel around this time of year.

“We had a little blip at Christmas last year, losing two on the bounce, and then a couple of games at the end of the season cost us,” he added.

“We’ve got a week off next week and then it is Purton so we’ll take each game as it comes and you can only beat what is in front of you.

“We’ll have a week off and then the players will be back in and ready to go again.”

Meanwhile, Purton had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Cirencester Town Development, Aaron Stevens and Matt Bennett scoring for the hosts, while Shrivenham fell to a 3-0 defeat at Milton United and New College suffered the same scoreline away to Easington Sports.
