WROUGHTON continued their fine start to the season with another win this as they claimed a 6-2 victory away at Devizes Town Reserves.

Despite conceding twice in the first half the hosts still went into the break with a slim advantage, thanks to Shane Hibbert’s double and James Turner’s effort.

In the second half, Ollie Armstrong added to their advantage when he made the score 4-2 before Aaron Maximen and Dennis Sorrenti added a fifth and sixth.

The result leaves Mark Love's team in third place, two points behind new pace-setters Marlborough Town with three games in hand.

Love's assistant Paul Bowden believes the side are more than capable of challenging for the top spot.

“We won the league cup last year and faded in the league to finish about fifth, but we are looking to finish in the top three and we like to think we could win it really,” said Bowden.

“We signed Shane Hibbert (from Fairford Town) and he’s scored three goals in two games for us, we were creating a lot of chances but we lacked a goal scorer so that has made a difference.”

Bowden believes they have a well-balanced squad and that it is not surprise they have hit the ground running this term. “We started the game poorly and conceded from a corner because we defended it poorly, but 80 per cent of the game was played in their half, it was a comfortable win, we were well in control,” added Bowden “The season is going really well, we thought we would do well this year because we have players who have played at a higher level dropping down, it is a good mix of experience and youth.”

Beversbrook made it two wins in a row with a 4-0 triumph over Pewsey Vale Development.

Darren Mobey got two goals in two minutes to put the hosts into the lead, Damian Smolinski made it three before Lewis Wollen rounded off the scoring.

Marlborough Town hit the summit with their 12th win of the season as they beat Trowbridge Town 3-1, while Shrewton United slipped to second after their 1-1 draw with Melksham Town Reserves.

Malmesbury Victoria Development defeated Ludgershall Sports 5-2, while Bromham recorded a 6-2 win over Royal Wootton Bassett Reserves.

Cricklade Town got a 4-1 win over Wilts Calne Town thanks to Ben Carter’s double, plus efforts from Toby Clarke and Craig Shand.
