SWINDON Supermarine handed themselves a shot in the arm by returning to winning ways at AFC Totton tonight.

Dave Webb’s side had gone six matches without tasting victory in the Southern League Division One South and West, losing 3-1 at home to Didcot Town last weekend, but a trip to Hampshire proved just what the doctor ordered for the men from the Webbswood Stadium.

Two first-half goals were enough for Marine to claim all three points and their first league victory since they won 5-0 at Bridgwater Town on October 22.

Joe Selman found the net with just two minutes on the clock to hand Webb’s side the perfect start at Totton’s Testwood Stadium and in the 19th minute, Joe Shepherd notched by rounding off a fine passing move with a near-post finish.

The Stags’ Nick Watts had an effort that struck the upright and despite Michael Gosney halving the deficit with one of the final actions of the game, Marine, who remain sixth in the table, would go on to run out 2-1 winners.

Elsewhere, Rich Hunter’s Royal Wootton Bassett Town go to Western League Premier Division side Bradford Town in the second round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup tomorrow evening.
