SWINDON Supermarine will be hoping they can build on Tuesday’s 2-1 win over AFC Totton with another victory at Paulton Rovers on Saturday.

Two early goals were enough for Dave Webb’s side to claim all three points over the struggling Stags, but they are likely to face a tougher test in Division One South & West this weekend in Somerset.

“On paper, it looked like a close win against Totton but I think we were pretty dominant, especially in the first half where we were excellent,” said Webb.

“Two-nil in the first half really did flatter them and they only scored with the last kick of the game, so the win was far more convincing than it looked on paper.

“We were excellent on a very cold night. In the second half, the pitch got hard and cut up, so it was difficult to play the kind of football we wanted to but I thought we did more than enough to win the game in the end.

“It was what we needed but we know Saturday will be more difficult. Paulton are a team who were relegated from the league above.

“They’re rebuilding the team and it is a difficult place to go. They are very physical, so it will be a different type of test for us.”

Before Tuesday’s result, Supermarine had struggled with form as they failed to win any of their previous five league games.

Despite the result against Totton, Webb remains wary that his side may not be out of the woods just yet as they head towards a congested fixture list.

“We’ve got to carry it on. It’s been a tough run of fixtures and we still have a lot of games to play before the new year,” added the Supermarine manager.

“The games are coming thick and fast but hopefully that win will have done everybody the world of good and hopefully we can build on that when we travel to Paulton.

“The league is very strong this year. The clubs who are at the top of the league are there for a reason, they’re good clubs and they have good players.

“We’ve had a poor run, we all know that and we all want to improve and start winning games again, but we are still in sixth and that’s not a bad achievement.

“Everybody needs to play well and not have a bad day together, I think that is absolutely key. We can’t afford not to have five or six players not on their game.

“We can afford to carry one or two, but not seven or eight. It might be a case where a few have an off day but the rest of the group pull them through.”

Webb will be without Sam Morris this weekend who is unavailable.
