SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb was delighted to see his side continue their resurgence by seeing off Yate Town on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with defeat to table-toppers Hereford on October 25, Marine endured a six-match winless run in the Southern League Division One South and West, but the picture is an awful lot rosier now, with Webb’s men stretching their current unbeaten run to four matches with a 3-1 victory over Yate Town.

Josh Parsons, returning to action after a four-match suspension, teed up Joe Shepherd to open the scoring before Callum Parsons struck shorty after the interval with brother Josh completing the scoring for the hosts. Visitors Yate netted a late consolation through Kyle Thomas.

“When you lose games, everyone’s there to be criticised but at the end of the day, they’re a good bunch, they’re a young side and they’re still developing, and it’s a case of when it goes wrong, we have to try put it right,” said Webb.

“We did have a bad run of form – we know that – but we seem to have come through that now.

“It was nice to score three goals, and it could have easily been double, but we created the chances again, which is something that we probably haven’t done in the last three games.”

Webb, whose team host Wessex League Downton in the quarter-finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup next Tuesday, was also delighted with frontman Josh Parsons’ impact.

The Marine chief said: “It was a difficult team selection. We had a very strong bench and players that weren’t available in midweek were back available.

“Josh Parsons was back after suspension and I think we got it nearly right.

“We were pretty good all over the park and I think Josh Parsons has come away with the man-of-the-match award – he’s scored and had a real influence on the way we played, and the overall result.

“It’s a fantastic result really, so I’m very pleased with the three points. I’m disappointed with the goal we conceded but apart from that, it was a good, all-round team performance.

“Yate were decent and I knew it would be a difficult game – it wasn’t easy by any means but we did enough and thoroughly deserved the win.

“It’s just about the next game, now.

“We want progress in the Wilts Senior Cup – it’s a competition we’re in so we want to try and win it –and then we’ve got Mangotsfield away to finish the fixtures before Christmas, and that’s a big game because it could strengthen our position in the top-five.”
