CHISELDON’S wait for their first Division One win was brought to an end this weekend with a 4-1 triumph over Swindon AFC.

Daniel Vaughan’s two goals added to efforts from Luke Robinson and Francesco Hunt as the villagers broke their duck for the season.

Vaughan was covering for manager Daniel Webb, who missed the game because of illness, and was delighted to get a three points on the board.

“It was one of those games which was heavily affected by the weather. Although we were good value for the win, I don’t think we played as well as we could have done,” said Vaughan.

“That is no disrespect to AFC (Swindon) because I think they lacked a lot of confidence, just like we did.

“We knew we had to get the first goal and get off the mark and it took a while. We hit the post and had a couple of near misses before we did score.

“Going in at half-time 1-0 up gave us a bit of a boost to kick on in the second half and we got the second just after half-time.”

The result came after a 10-game wait, the side only earning one previous point from a 2-2 draw with Haydon Wick.

Marlborough Reserves were also winners with a 4-2 win over hosts New Town All Stars, leaving them in ninth and 10th respectively in the table.

Fred Hill bagged a hat-trick for the winners and Tom Mooney got the other, while Dale Bird and James Lewis were on target for the hosts.

Haydon Wick will be frustrated to come away with just a point after they took a 1-0 lead into the second half against Sport 4 Pinehurst, with the game eventually finishing 3-3.

David Palmer had given Haydon Wick an early advantage but, as the second half wore on, the game was back and forth before both teams were made to settle for a draw.

Wick’s goals came in the shape of Palmer, Barry Murphy and Christopher Tewkesbury, while Aaron Welland, Jonathan Peachey and Damian Gwanzeni notched for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Old Town United will be pleased with their weekend’s work was they picked up all three points in a 3-1 away win over Stratton Juniors.

Despite Stratton taking the initiative, they were unable to see out the triumph as Aaron Williams, Steven Nesbitt and Stephen Low got on the scoresheet for United.

There were only two games in the Premier Division as Bassett Bulldogs were beaten by Sportz Central, meaning Crag Hunt’s goal was just a consolation in a 2-1 defeat.

Spectrum were beaten by Swindon Centurians, who were 4-2 away winners thanks to goals from Gary Donnelly, Sam Bailey plus Nick Camden’s double.
