HIGHWORTH Town go into their clash with Binfield this weekend rejuvenated after a 2-0 Wiltshire Senior Cup win over Toolstation Premier Division side Bradford Town in midweek.

Manager Jeff Roberts believes it was the perfect way to get back to normal following a disappointing loss to Thatcham Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division last weekend.

Roberts was particularly impressed with his side’s performance in the first half, labelling it their best so far this season.

“We started very well, took the game straight to them and caused them some problems down the flanks,” said Roberts.

“It was a really good 45 minutes for us. It all clicked in the first half and it was the best half from us so far this season.”

Following their cup triumph, Roberts wants to see his side produce the same level when they travel to Binfield tomorrow.

“We are going to have a tough game against Binfield. They came to us last month and we beat them 4-0 so they’ll look to react to that,” added Roberts.

“We need to kick on from our result in the week and take that into the game on Saturday.”

Royal Wootton Bassett Town also won on Wednesday as Rich Hunter’s side were 2-0 victors against Lydney Town in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup.

Despite being unable to win the tie inside 90 minutes, Bassett went safely through after Steve Robertson’s double sealed the win in extra time.

Hunter said: “It was a close game. They played how they normally do, which is very direct.

“Hats off to my defence, who were fantastic. We looked solid throughout so it finished 0-0, but we got our goals in extra time.

“It showed the fitness of our team and the willingness to win the game, which was good to see.

“I didn’t mind playing extra time because we don’t have a game at the weekend so the players have a little break ahead of them.”

Hunter’s men are next in action on Boxing Day when they host local rivals Highworth.
