MATT Cosnett admits his side are in need of a result against Purton as they look to improve their form in 2017.

Cosnett’s side have found points hard to come by so far this season in Hellenic League Division One West as they have only managed two wins and two draws, while Justin Miller’s Purton are riding high in sixth.

College coach Cosnett is more than aware that his side are up against it on Boxing Day when the two teams go head to head.

“They came down here in August and they were quite a good side. They look to play football the right way at times,” said Cosnett.

“They have some decent players, who could probably play at a higher level. They’ll be a tough test, so it will depend on who turns up on the day.

“Hopefully, it will be three points for us because ideally, it would be great for us to go up the table a bit.

“The performances are good but errors have cost us. Mistakes will cost us a goal whereas they won’t for other teams.

“It would be a great start to the year if we can get three points.”

Cosnett also believes it is difficult for his players to balance the festive period with a Boxing Day fixture.

“It’s hard. We spoke to them a few weeks ago about it. For some of the more senior players, it isn’t so much of an issue because they’ll be used to playing on Boxing Day, so this will be normal for them,” he added.

“The younger players have all said they want to play on Boxing Day to get out of the house and do something.

“It will be quite good to see the lads produce the things they have been doing in training.”

Meanwhile, Fairford Town will be well-rested after their game at the weekend was postponed.

They’ll be in action on the December 27 when they take on Letcombe, looking to close the gap on leaders Hook Norton.
