FAIRFORD Town manager Gareth Davies says that his title-chasing side cannot take Abingdon United for granted.

The second placed team in Hellenic League Division One West welcome the Oxfordshire outfit to Cinder Lane tomorrow with Davies impressed with what Abingdon have done this campaign.

But with Fairford fully focused on top spot they won’t be any time for pleasantries.

“Abingdon have been quietly going about their business and sneaking up the table,” Davies said. “But we got a good result against Purton on Saturday and that is something we must build on.”

However, the Cinder Lane chief is likely to be forced into making at least two changes to his starting XI tomorrow with Luke Cordery and Sean Wood limping off during that 5-3 success over Purton at the weekend.

“Luke had to come off quite early, he picked up a hamstring problem and we are just waiting to find out how bad it is,” Davies said.

“Sean, I’m gutted for him. He’s just come back from a long-term injury and came to us to get some games under his belt and now his damaged his ankle ligaments.

“To have Sean in our dressing room is great for our players, he is used to playing at a higher level with Evesham (United in the Southern League) and you can see his quality and now he is injured again.”

Jason Milhench is set to return for Fairford after his missed the festive period through suspension.

While Davies will be looking to secure three points against Abingdon, he will be hoping that struggling Cheltenham Saracens can spring a surprise on leaders Hook Norton tomorrow.

Fairford beat Saracens 17-0 before Christmas, however, an influx of new blood at Peterfield Park has seen them claim draws with Purton and Cirencester Town Development.

“I’m glad we played them when we did,” said Davies. “They have got some new players and are picking up a couple of results.

“Hook Norton are going to have it all their own way and we play them on February 11 – that is going to be a huge match in terms of what happens this season.”

Elsewhere in the division, Purton will be looking to bounce back from that Fairford loss when they head to Easington Sports, while New College will be looking to build on a 4-0 win over Justin Miller’s side when they visit Milton United and Shrivenham make the journey to Clanfield 85.
