AFC Gas were this weekend’s big winners in the Swindon Sunday League as they almost hit double figures in a 9-1 win over Jovial Monk.

The win saw Mark Tring’s side reclaim their place at the top of the Division One table as their nearest rivals Greyhound weren’t in action.

James Blake bagged a hat-trick, Lee Smith and Ryan Thomas grabbed two each and Liam Edmondson and Matthew Bissett registered solitary efforts.

Manager Tring was more than happy with how his side performed as they picked up their first win of the year.

“It was a fantastic result. I was over the moon with the performance. They really stepped up to the plate,” he said “All-round, it was pretty much perfect. I couldn’t have asked for much more, really.

“It is always nice to see yourself at the top but there is a lot more football to be played, so we aren’t taking anything for granted. We are taking it a game at a time.”

Meanwhile, a heavy defeat for Jovial Monk means that their search for their first points of the season continues.

That ten-goal clash was the only league fixture from the top division as FC Walcot, Deers Leap and Penhill United were all involved in county cup action.

The former were 5-3 winners over rivals Penhill, while Deers Leap had no problems on the road as they swept Salisbury side Danny’s Bar to one side in a 4-1 win.

Division Two’s Rodbourne Real continued their recent run of form with a 6-2 home victory over fourth-placed Cleeve Tech.

DPR were also high-scorers in their clash with Fairford Town Sunday as they picked up all three points in an 8-3 win.

Towards the bottom of the league, Woodlands Edge heaped further misery on strugglers Wanborough, who were subjected to a 6-0 defeat at home.

Seventh-placed Chilli Shak will be happier than second-placed DH Fitness after the two sides couldn’t be separated in a 5-5 draw.

Your Sport Swindon played out a 3-1 home win over Division Three side Croft Junior in the SSFL Knockout Cup.

In Division Three, Crown were no match for league leaders Haydon as the latter tightened their grip on top spot with a 6-1 win, with Stratton Saints losing 2-1 to Eldene.

In the fourth tier, second-placed Atheltico Marlborough were held by third-placed Swindon Athletic in a 4-4 draw.

Bottom-of-the-league PSV Swindon claimed their fourth point of the season in a 3-3 draw with Smart Movers.

In Division Five, both Paxton House United and Highworth Town Sunday put in five-star performances with 5-0 wins over Northern Lights and Swindon Rovers respectively, while Cricklade Park Rangers recorded an 8-2 win against Sevenfield United.

AFC Cricklade and Rudis extended their interest in the Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield with a 1-0 win over Purton Freshbrook and a 3-1 triumph at home to Willowgreen Hotspur respectively.

Chiseldon Sunday booked their place in the next round with a 5-3 win at home to Gorsehill Borough.
