A CONNOR Waldon brace was enough for 10-man Swindon Supermarine to secure a 2-0 win at home to Slimbridge.

Waldon, who was named on the substitute’s bench before Ryan Campbell picked up an injury during the warm-up, scored either side of the break to take his tally to three in two games.

It was a sloppy start to proceedings at the Webbswood Stadium as both sides struggled to take control of the game.

The first chance came from a Supermarine corner in the eighth minute when Zak Westlake was afforded a free header but he steered his effort wide of the far post.

In a game short of opportunities, it took until the 30th minute before Connor Johns was called into action, diving well to his left to deny Slimbridge skipper Lee Smith.

The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Brad Hooper saw his ball into the box deflected and sit up nicely for Waldon to control before beating Adam Thompson with a bullet on the volley.

The visitors had the chance to go into the break level when a mix up at the back post gave Marley Thomas a half chance, but the Slimbridge forward fired wide from close range.

That wasn’t the final action of the half however, as Supermarine’s Joe Shephard was dismissed for an alleged stamp, having got his boot tangled with Sam Turl on the ground.

The man advantage for the visitors was not evident in the second period and it was the hosts who extended their lead just after the hour-mark.

Waldon was played in with his back to goal on the edge of the box and the forward got his shot away on the turn to beat the out-stretched Adam Thomas.

Waldon had the chance to secure his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining after Josh Parsons worked tirelessly to keep the ball in at the byline, but his pull back was cut out with Waldon set to pull the trigger.

A good save from Johns, followed by a header on the line from Ash Taylor, denied Ryan Thwaite late on to maintain Marine’s clean sheet.
