CHILLY weather may have frozen out the majority of fixtures in the Swindon & District League but one side who finally hit red-hot form at the weekend were North Swindon WMC.

Luke Brennan’s team claimed a first win in the Premier Division this season at the 12th attempt as they romped to a 4-2 success at home to Ramsbury.

Michael Bonizzi led the charge with a brace of goals for North Swindon, who added to their solitary point so far this season after beginning the campaign with a draw and 10 defeats. Dan Knight and Jake Bailey were also on target for the home side.

North Swindon remain bottom of the table on goal difference but they are now level on points with the side immediately above them – Spectrum – who slipped to a narrow 2-1 reverse at home to Village Inn in the only other top-flight fixture to beat the cold snap.

There were also only two games contested in Division One, with the most notable being the landslide 8-0 victory for Lyneham at home to Moredon, which saw them climb to third and move within six points of leaders Old Town United.

Elsewhere, Will Hooton and Steve Norriss were both on target as Lower Stratton kept up their own title push with a 2-0 win at lowly Chiseldon and they are also now just six points off the summit themselves.
