SWINDON Supermarine shared the spoils with promotion rivals Taunton Town when they returned to the scene of their play-off semi-final defeat last term on Saturday.

Dave Webb’s team faced a stern test when they hit the road as the Peacocks side were enjoying a good run of form, which had seen them win their last nine league games.

But Supermarine haven’t been doing too badly either as they were unbeaten in their last 10 league outings heading into the clash.

Despite being happy with the point, which stretched their run to 11 matches unbeaten, Webb believes it was his side who were more likely to grab a goal after creating numerous chances in the opening 45 minutes.

“I thought in the first half especially, we had some really good opportunities to score. The pleasing thing was we kept a clean sheet,” said Webb.

“We probably had the better chances in the first half and didn’t quite pick the right pass at the right time to score.

“Everyone contributed, from the goalkeeper all the way though to players who started and came off of the bench.

“It was a great team performance – we showed great spirit and great togetherness to get a point which keeps our little run going as well.”

The result means Marine remain in fourth place as they look to finish the season in the play-off positions.

Webb was more than happy with how his players applied themselves in the game and wants more of the same as they enter the back end of the season.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more from them, apart from picking the right pass for the goal in the first half,” added the Supermarine manager.

“I thought we were the better team but it is a good point. We have two home games now and we are looking forward to them now.

“We have 14 games to go. We just need to keep picking up points and see if we can maintain a challenge for the top five.

“We are on course at the moment but we just have to keep approaching them in the same way and show the togetherness and the spirit they showed (on Saturday).

“That was a game we might have lost at the start of the season. That is down to the players’ collective spirit.

“We haven’t gone there just for the point. We have gone there to win the game. We always try and win every game.”
