JUST three fixtures were able to beat the elements in the Swindon & District League Premier Division as FC Dorcan moved to within a point of leaders Tawny Owl.

Jake Kitchin got two, while Nick Crisp, Brendan Shaw and Chris Birkett were all on target in a 5-1 away win over Swindon Centurians.

The triumph means Dorcan are now third in the league, level with second-placed Deers Leap, with both a point behind table-toppers Tawny, who were 2-1 winners in their Wiltshire Junior Cup clash with Swindon-based Cirencester League outfit Intel.

Dorcan manager Jimmy Horwood was delighted with how his team played as they registered another three points.

“It was a good performance. It’s just a shame we don’t have the goal difference to get second place,” said Horwood “At the start of the season, we would win by one goal but now we seem to win by one or two.

“It’s a surprise us being up so high, with it being our first season, so I am just happy that we are winning.

“The surprise is we are playing so well together and gelling. “It was a really good team performance. We missed a few chances and it could have been double figures.”

Deers Leap also kept the pressure up on the league’s pace-setters,with a home win over Bassett Bulldogs.

Blaine Fitzgerald fired in a hat-trick whilst Aston Glover also notched on their way to a 4-2 win.

Sportz Central gained ground on their nearest league opponents, Ramsbury, with an emphatic 7-1 win over the hosts.

After claiming all three points, the visitors are now just one point behind Ramsbury, who are in sixth in the league.

Meanwhile in Division One, Old Town United strengthened their grip on top spot with a comfortable 5-1 win over strugglers AFC Swindon.

Alex Hammond, Lewis Cholod, Aaron Williams and Jesse McGowan all found the back of the net in a routine win for the visitors.

The defeat for AFC Swindon leaves them at the foot of the table with just one win this campaign.

Wroughton Reserves also put in a five-star performance as they were comprehensive winners over Haydon Wick at the Ridgeway School.

Ben Leonard, Jack Hill, Shahdir Chokdar and Jamie Pidgeon, who scored twice, were among the goals as they recorded their seventh win of the season.

Second-placed Lower Stratton claimed an important win over third-placed Stratton United, their sixth success in a row.

Chiseldon had a weekend to remember as they picked up their second win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Moredon, Will Davis and Iain Williams getting the goals.
