HIGHWORTH Town Sunday pulled out a big performance at the weekend as they knocked out Division Three’s Willowgreen Hotspur to book their place in the semi-final of the Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup.

Mitchell Page’s Division Five side were 4-2 winners, thanks to goals from Jack Pedder, Liam Haines, Nathan Gambling and Drew Youngsam.

The hosts did hold a two-goal advantage before they were pegged back to 2-2 by the visitors before victory was sealed.

“I wouldn’t say we 100 per cent thought we were going to win the game, but we went in with the attitude there was no reason for us not to win,” said Page.

“The lads got up for the game, did what they could and then walked away with the result.

“We started off quite well but then went to sleep and we didn’t really have control of the game.

“They hit back with two goals which sort of shocked us a little bit and then we went for it again.”

Division One side Deers Leap had a weekend to enjoy as they too progressed through their quarter-final tie as they thrashed Chippenham and District Sunday League side Corsham CC Wildcats 8-2.

AFC Gas moved to the summit in Division One as they returned home after disposing of previous leaders Greyhound 4-2.

In Division Two, Woodlands Edge failed to make the most of home comforts following an 8-2 thumping by visitors DPR.

Fairford Town Sunday and Your Sport Swindon played out a nine-goal thriller as the former were 5-4 winners on the day.

Division Three leaders AFC Cricklade flexed their muscles as they stretched their unbeaten run to seven games following their 14-0 win at the expense of Eldene.

Crown also recorded all three points this weekend as they played host to eighth-placed Stratton Saints, but the home side were too strong for their visitors as they claimed a 6-2 win.

Purton Freshbrook were the highest scorers from the weekend as they put 12 past AFC Haydon in a 12-4 away win.

Division Four pace-setters Coleshill Youth were big winners as they elongated their unbeaten run to eight with a 9-0 victory at Gorsehill Borough Nationwide narrowly edged out Athletico Marlborough at home in a closely contested 5-4 win, as PSV Swindon could only manage a draw with Chiseldon Swindon In the fifth tier, Purton Redhouse hit Northern Lights for six in a 6-0 home win to move three points clear at the top of the table.

Paxton House United were unable to prevent defeat as they were beaten 4-2 by Save on Tyres Athletic.
