SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb said his players let themselves down as their unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt at home to Bishops Cleeve on Saturday.

Webb’s side went into the game having not tasted defeat in 12 games, a run stretching back to November, however, complacency was to blame as they fell to a 4-2 defeat.

First-half goals from Jack Horrell, Joe Bates and Jacob Davidge put the visitors to the Webbswood Stadium in control, having seen Ryan Campbell level shortly after the half-hour mark.

Callum Parsons pulled a goal back with eight minutes left on the clock but it was not enough as Bates got his second three minutes from time to secure the three points returned to Gloucestershire.

“I’m very disappointed,” said Webb.

“Fair play to Bishops Cleeve, they were much better on the day and ran us ragged in certain areas, especially defensively, and we got what we deserved, nothing.

“We got back to 3-2 and we might have nicked a point but then we have given another terrible goal away.

“I’m not one to criticise my team but the most frustrating thing for me is that they were prepared properly, we told them what they would do and too many players turned up thinking we would just go out there and win.

“That was always the danger, having been on a great run and beaten some good sides along the way.

“There are not many players in blue who can come away with any credit at all and I don’t say that very often but I can’t dress it up any other way.”

Horrell’s deflected shot in the 17th minute got the visitors off to the perfect start as their high pressing troubled the hosts but Marine were back on level terms when Campbell netted in the 35th minute.

However, when Connor Johns was caught in possession, Bates put the visitors back in front before Davidge doubled their advantage before the break.

Marine pulled a goal back in the second half through Parsons but when Bates netted a second from yards out three minutes from time and Sam Morris receiving his marching orders, it was curtains for Webb’s side.

“We fell well short today and it’s another game lost at home,” added the Webbswood Stadium boss.

“If we’re going to achieve anything this season, they’re the games we have got to win.

“It’s alright going to Tiverton and winning, but that counts for nothing because we have just been beaten by Bishops Cleeve.

“If we do fall short and don’t reach the play-offs, these are the games that have cost us.”
