SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb expects an immediate response from his players this evening after watching them relinquish their unbeaten run at the weekend.

Marine were 12 games unbeaten in all competitions before they faced Bishops Cleeve on Saturday but a below-par performance saw them fall to a 4-2 defeat.

There is added importance on tonight’s game as Webb’s side look to bounce back against Mangotsfield United, knowing a defeat would see them slip out of the play-off places – with the visitors also having two games in hand.

The pitch at the Webbswood Stadium had an impact on Saturday’s encounter as it cut up badly but Webb is confident it will recover in time and wants to see his side right the wrongs of the weekend to remain in the promotion picture.

“We have got to show a reaction now,” he said.

“If they don’t show a reaction, as quick as you are in those play-off positions, you are out of them and then you are playing catch-up.

“If we keep playing like we did on Saturday, we won’t reach the play-offs, it’s as simple as that.

“We have to do better and we have to try and win.

“The next four games, Mangotsfield, Evesham, Salisbury, Hereford, if we don’t play at a better level than Saturday, then we won’t be getting any points.”

Sam Morris saw red for a second yellow card late on against Bishops Cleeve but his one-match suspension does not come into force until the weekend.

However, Zach Westlake is a doubt following his early departure from the game on Saturday.

“Zach has had a real nasty lump come straight up on his head and you can’t take any chances with that so we’ll have to see how he is,” added Webb.

“We still haven’t got Joe Shepherd, he has still got another game to serve of his three-game ban, so we will be a bit threadbare.”
