WILTS Calne Town came out on top in an eventful Premier Division game with Royal Wootton Bassett Reserves which had no fewer than six goals and three players sent off.

Steve Davis’ troops were 4-2 winners but rode their luck in the first half as the visitors hit the woodwork three times.

However, Wilts Calne Town were clinical in the latter stages and took a 3-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Rory Davis and Aaron Hopkins.

In the second half, they further stretched their lead when they added a fourth and the afternoon was made easier for the hosts when Bassett’s Luke Adams was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

On the hour mark, the winning side were also reduced to 10 men when Jamie Crumb was given a straight red.

The visitors were able to finally find a reply when Jack Sanderson and Richard Clark got on the score sheet to make it 4-2.

But the drama wasn’t finished yet as Davis ended the game with nine men on the field after Hopkins was also given a second yellow with 10 minutes remaining.

The Wilts Calne Town manager admitted he was happy to see the end of an eventful game at Bremhill View.

“It had everything. It had goals and players sent off,” said Davis.

“It was a good performance. We stormed into a 3-0 lead after they hit the bar three times.

“Every time we seemed to have a shot it seemed to find the back of the net, which was good."

Marlborough Town reclaimed top spot with a 2-0 win at home to Cricklade Town thanks to a Devan Bryan double.

The win means they are top of the league, with only goal difference only separating them and second-placed Wroughton, who have four games in hand.

Shrewton United were also able to register a win - 2-1 at Bromham - as they too closed in on the league’s high-flyers. They are now two points off the pace, having played two games fewer than Marlborough.

Strugglers Pewsey Vale Development came close to claiming their second win of the season but came up just short in a 3-2 defeat to Corsham Town Reserves.

Meanwhile, Wroughton were involved in Fountain Trophies Senior KO Cup action and needed extra time to navigate a way past Melksham Town Reserves in a 3-2 win, with the game finishing 1-1 in normal time.

Ludgershall Sports had their home game with Trowbridge Town postponed.
