OLD Town United made the most of their Swindon Advertiser Cup quarter-final as they defeated FC Dorcan 3-0 at home.

The visitors currently occupy third place in the Premier Division, with the hosts sitting on top of Division One, but it was the underdogs who came out on top as goals from Lee Haywood and Alex Hammond’s double guided them to a 3-0 triumph - much to the delight of their manager, Chris Wood.

“It’s a fantastic result for us as a club. As far as the game went, I think both teams were a little bit light on players,” he said.

“It was nerve-wracking for both teams but it panned out really well for us. We dominated possession and they had very few chances against us.

“The boys have been playing well. Regardless, we have to beat everyone above us if we want to win the cup.

“We knew we had to pull one out of the bag to get into the next round. It benefits us more than them because there is no pressure on us.”

Tawny Owl survived a cup scare as they had just about enough to progress following a 4-3 win over Lower Stratton, with Jack Allen and Lewis Waldon grabbing two goals each.

Goals from Marc Connelly, Kevin Stephens, Tom Jewell, plus two from Lee Gratton and Yasuhiro Ohno helped Haydon Wick produce a ruthless performance to sweep Sport 4 Pinehurst to one side in an emphatic 7-4 home win.

Bassett Bulldogs had a far more straightforward win as they were comfortable 2-0 winners at Marlborough Reserves, their goals coming in the shape of Jason Hudson and Joshua Dimond There were also four fixtures taking place in the Don Rogers Cup.

Division One Chiseldon secured their place in the next round with a narrow 3-2 win against Premier Division outfit Spectrum.

Andy Marriot had put the visitors two goals up in the first half, but goals from Iain Williams, Tom Davis and James Lovell saw the hosts complete the comeback.

Moredon were on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline as their cup interest was ended by home side Ramsbury, thanks to Max Derrick and Mathew Darvell netting twice each.

Another side who comfortably booked their place in the next stage of the competition were Deers Leap, 2-0 winners over Stratton Juniors.

Wroughton Reserves were able to continue their domestic form in the cup competition as they put six past North Swindon WMC in a 6-1 win.

Ryan Rawlins, Ollie Bunce, Jamie Pigeon and Jack Hill all got on the score sheet, while Daryll Chambers notched twice.
