SWINDON Town Ladies suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as they slumped to a crushing 8-0 loss on the road at FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division leaders Cardiff City on Sunday.

It has been a season of struggle for Steve Robertson’s side throughout 2016-17 as they adjust to life at a higher level following last term’s promotion and they were always likely to be up against it in their bid to claim a third league win of the season in Wales.

After three weeks without a game, Town were slow out of the blocks and found themselves in arrears inside four minutes in the Welsh capital.

That signalled the opening of the floodgates as the home side continued to put their visitors to the sword, building up a hefty 5-0 cushion by half-time.

The break did at least help Town stop the rot for a brief spell and Cardiff were frustrated in their efforts to pull further clear up until the 66th minute when they eventually did take their tally to six.

Cardiff were able to add two further goals before the final whistle sounded, with Town left to reflect on a tough day’s work and a 13th loss in 15 league games this term.

The result leaves Robertson’s side third from bottom in the table, just a point above basement side Queens Park Rangers.
