PURTON manager Justin Miller hopes a consistent run of fixtures between now and the end of the season can help them end 2016-17 on a high.

Miller’s men are currently sixth in the Hellenic League Division One West table and made it three wins on the spin last weekend with a 5-1 thumping of Shortwood United Reserves.

Three weeks had passed since Purton’s previous triumph, so Miller was delighted that the lengthy lay-off did not hinder his troops.

Purton can now look forward to a solid batch of games, starting with a home clash against local rivals Shrivenham at the Red House tomorrow, and Miller is optimistic that will translate into a hefty return of points.

“We’re in good form. The lads looked like they were hungry for it last week after the break and from now until towards the end of the season, we have got a run of fixtures,” said Miller.

“That is good, we want that, we don’t want two or three weeks’ break.

“Hopefully, we can continue our form going forward and we can keep showing the same level of performance that we have been producing in our last few games.

“We have had a couple of difficult away trips recently so it’s nice to be on the home patch rather than travelling.

“We had a tough period over Christmas where we had a lot of lads unavailable given the time of year and it affected us.

“Since the new year, we have had the lads back – the lads that are there week in, week out normally – and we’re showing good form, so we’re pleased.”

Purton romped to a 3-0 victory on the road when the two sides met in the reverse fixture at Barrington Park back in October but Miller is not expecting such a straightforward afternoon this time around.

Shrivvy are seeking a second win of the week after they reached the second round of the Hellenic Supplementary Cup on Wednesday night with a 3-2 success at Hook Norton.

“We beat them at their place quite comfortably so they will be looking to put that result right and trying to get one over on us,” said Miller.

“Against anyone in this league, we know if we play well we have got a really good chance of winning, but they will be saying the same.

“They are on the back of some tough fixtures but it’s going to be a really tough game, make no bones about it.”

Elsewhere, nothing less than three points will do for leaders Fairford Town when they host second-from-bottom Tytherington Rocks as Gareth Davies’ side look to continue their title challenge.

New College were thumped 5-1 at North Leigh on Wednesday night but are not in action tomorrow.
