MALMESBURY Victoria finally brought an end to their seven-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over Cheddar.

The club had been busy during the week, recruiting Graham Learmonth to the management team, as well as adding Corsham Town duo Nick Chandler and Jon Bazley to their squad from Learmonth’s former side Corsham Town. Manager Kevin Bridgeman opted to return to the tried and trusted formation of 4-5-1 and three good saves from the home keeper kept Malmesbury at bay until and it was the hosts who landed a telling blow first when they took the lead.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Vics drew level from the spot as Ant Brown dispatched a penalty.

Jamie Packer then added the all-important second when he latched onto Andrew Baker’s cross to head home the winner.

From here, Bridgeman’s side were able to stay firm and hold on for the win, despite late pressure from the home side, with new signing Chandler impressing with his performance at the heart of defence.
