ROYAL Wootton Bassett Yellow celebrated title success for the very first time on Sunday after they were crowned champions of U13 Division Four in the North Wiltshire Youth League.

Bassett rubber-stamped top spot with a 6-1 triumph over Lydiard Youth Black, which handed them an unassailable 11-point lead and a maiden league title.

Despite having two players missing with broken ankles, Bassett finished off the job with two games left to play, with man-of-the-match Samuel Osei Bonsu scoring twice against Lydiard.

Tristan McKay also bagged a brace, while Seb Turner and Harry Collins were also on target.

Bassett head coach Steve Robbins said: “I’m really pleased for the boys.

“They have been together a long time now and they have always been a great bunch of lads to coach.

“Most importantly, they really enjoy playing together as a team and are as positive when they lose as they are when they win.”

The U13 Yellows will shortly be representing their club on an annual football tour to the Netherlands.

U13 DIVISION ONE

SWINDON Supermarine J returned to action after a two-week break and moved joint-top of U13 Division One with an emphatic 10-1 victory over Castle Combe White.

It was the South Marston outfit that took the advantage from the offset and after several chances, Josh Godwin poked home from a corner in the six-yard-box. Owen Spavins headed in Marine’s second and then went on to complete his hat-trick before half-time.

The home side continued where they left off in the second half and had several chances again before Harry Money drilled a powerful shot to the visiting keeper’s left to make it 5-0.

Harry Johnson rose highest to head home number six from a Money corner before Combe pulled a goal back, but Spavins struck again to claim his fourth of the match, Joah Hall grabbed a quickfire brace, and Tadhg O’Callaghan notched his team’s tenth.

U16 DIVISION ONE

MAX Duggan earned Ferndale Rodbourne three first-half penalties but it wasn’t enough to prevent his team falling to a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Lambourn Sports.

Kamran Muhid converted two of Ferndale’s spot-kicks, Duggan dispatching the other, while Kyle Meader-Harris was also on target.

However, Kieran Ratcliffe’s hat-trick, as well as goals from Sylvester Anaisie and Jack Tysom, proved the home side’s undoing as Lambourn came out on top of a nine-goal thriller to claim all three points.
