PSV Swindon shrugged off their ‘whipping boys’ tag in emphatic fashion by turning the Swindon Sunday League Division Four table on its head last weekend.

Heading in to their clash with table-topping Athletico Marlborough on Sunday, PSV were bottom of the pile and had only claimed one victory to date all season – a 5-3 win over Nationwide in November.

But at Shrewsbury Road, Division Four’s basement boys roared back with a vengeance and thrashed Athletico 4-0, Tom Alder and Aaron Stubbs notching in the first period before the latter went on to claim his hat-trick in the second half.

PSV manager Duane Maslen said: “I was absolutely over the moon.

“We’ve struggled to get a team together for a lot of the season because of injuries and people being unavailable, but we’ve got those players back in the last few weeks and on Sunday, we were really good.

“They had the wind behind them in the first half but didn’t take advantage of it, and we really stood up to that – we dominated the game, really.

“We were 2-0 up at half-time after Tom and Aaron scored and Aaron has gone and got his hat-trick. He had five players around him for his third goal and has still managed to score.

“We really need to try to build on this now.

“I think we’ve shown that we’re not the whipping boys and hopefully we’ve sent out a few shockwaves across the league as well.”

Unbeaten Coleshill Youth took advantage of Athletico’s slip-up and moved two points clear in first-place, with two games in hand on their Marlborough counterparts, courtesy of a 6-0 triumph against Smart Movers.

Elsewhere, honours were even in two high-scoring stalemates, Gorsehill Borough and Swindon Athletic drawing 5-5, while Rudis and Nationwide couldn’t be separated after a 4-4 tie.

In Division One, leaders Greyhound beat Penhill United 2-0, while FC Walcot heaped more misery on bottom-of-the-pile Jovial Monk as they ran out 7-0 winners.

Rodbourne Real are now just one win away from clinching the Division Two title.

They hammered struggling Wanborough 7-0 and victory over third-placed DH Fitness on March 5 will leave them unable to be caught by both Fitness and second-placed DPR, who lost 3-2 to Woodlands Edge.

In the other match in the division, Chilli Shak eased past Cleeve Tech 4-0.

Croft Junior moved up to third in Division Three with a 4-2 win over Willowgreen Hotspur, while Crown beat Eldene 5-0, and in Division Five, Highworth Town Sunday kept the heat on leaders Purton Red House with a 5-0 victory over Swindon Rovers.

Save on Tyres Athletic won by the same scoreline against Sevenfield United.
