SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb was pleased to see his side kick off a pivotal month in their bid to make the play-offs with a dominant performance over Winchester City.

Marine were able to keep pace with the Division One South & West's top five as Callum Parsons headed home from close range, following up Ryan Campbell’s wonder strike, in the first half before Joe Selman was felled in the area in the second half and Brad Hooper dispatched the spot-kick.

With a game at home to sixth-placed Mangotsfield United on Tuesday night, Webb is aware how important it is to keep their standards high.

“We’d lost to them earlier in the season so a lot of that was still in my head, the way we played that day,” he said.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game but we were excellent and it was probably one of our best performances for a long time.

“We probably could have had a few more goals but I would have taken that result all day long.

“The first goal is a great strike from Ryan Campbell. He has hit the bar from 30 yards out with a great effort and Callum is in the right place to nod it into the empty net.

“The second goal is a penalty after some good work from Joe Selman and Brad Hooper has finished it well again.

“In March, all the games are all going to be big, they’re all going to be tough but it is a great start with that result on Saturday.”

Defender Ash Taylor returned to the side from a spell on the sidelines with injury on Saturday but it was skipper for the day Josh Parsons who landed the plaudits from Webb.

“The players really brought into it,” he added.

“We changed the formation a bit and changed the personnel as well and it really did work, so encouraging signs.

“I made Josh Parsons captain for the day. He played up top and he was exceptional.

“I wanted Ash to concentrate on his football and play and relax.

“I gave Josh the responsibility and who knows. He is one of our more experienced players and it might fit with him.”
