SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb admits it is human nature to be looking at the teams around them in the table at this stage of the season.

Marine host sixth-placed Mangotsfield United this evening and will jump above their opponents with victory.

Webb still has designs on the play-offs in Southern League Division One South and West, with eight points separating them and Evesham in fifth, with Marine having a game in hand.

Having secured a 2-0 win over Winchester City on Saturday, the Webbswood Stadium chief conceded that he was looking at other results when he got into the changing room, although he knows they count for nothing if his own team don’t continue to pick up points.

“You’re always looking at Evesham now. They’re the ones currently in fifth spot so you are trying to chase that,” he said.

“We’ve still got to play them in a couple of weeks.

“We can’t really worry about them. They’re a good side, they’ve been up there all season and have had a little bit of a dip in form but they managed to win 1-0 (against Barnstaple) at the weekend.

“Tiverton lost at the weekend as well. Shortwood is never easy to go to, but they have lost again.

“Salisbury are in great form, they’re chasing, trying to get that runners-up spot in front of Taunton.

“We’re looking at the results, it's human nature to do so, but we have got to try and keep winning every game that we play and hope that they slip up and if they do, we could be in a position to take advantage.

“Saturday was a great start but we need to do it again against Mangotsfield and we’ll need to do it again against Bideford (on Saturday).

“We need to worry about Mangotsfield and try and do as well as we can.

“If we can still be around Evesham when we go there, that will be a massive game as well.

“There’s still nine games to go and a lot of points to play for.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Roberts’ Highworth Town side travel to Flackwell Heath in the Bluefin Sport Hellenic Challenge Cup this evening, while New College were in action against Milton United in Hellenic League Division One West last night.
