SWINDON Supermarine chief Dave Webb is urging his troops to adopt tunnel vision for their clash with Bideford at the Webbswood Stadium tomorrow.

Marine leapfrogged Mangotsfield United into sixth in the Southern League Division One South & West table with a fine 5-0 victory over their South Gloucestershire opponents and on Saturday, they play host to the eighth-placed Robins.

Webb’s troops were humbled 4-0 when they visited Bideford back in November and with little room for error in his team’s bid to reach the play-offs, the Marine manager reckons that his side should focus on their next assignment in complete isolation.

“I think that many people might have thought it was over for us when we lost those three games in a row but now we’ve won four on the spin and we’ve kept three clean sheets in our last three, scoring 11 goals,” said Webb.

“Against Mangotsfield, we showed the supporters how good we can be. We’re on a good run but we want the players not to look too far forward.

“We’ve got ourselves up to sixth and we’re five points behind Evesham, who we play on Wednesday, but we need to just concentrate on the next game – that’s what we tried to do for the Mangotsfield match.

“I was impressed with Bideford when we went down there in November.

“They’ve obviously just come down from the Prem and they’ll need to win all of their games between now and the end of the season to get in the play-offs, so it’s a massive game.

“Can we learn from the last time we played them?”

Forwards Connor Waldon, Josh Parsons and Callum Parsons all notched against the Mangos and have notched 21, 19 and 18 goals respectively this term.

Marine also collectively reached the landmark of 100 goals scored this season and Webb is pleased to have threats from all over the pitch at his disposal.

He said: “We haven’t got a big squad but we’ve got a lot of quality.

“Goals from midfield are important too and even though he takes the penalties, Brad Hooper has got 14, and you need that.

“We’ve also given Josh Parsons the armband in the last few games and that has seemed to invigorate his performances.”

Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s Curtis Meare deputised for goalkeeper Conor Johns, who has an infected foot, on Tuesday but Marine’s regular stopper is expected to return against Bideford, while captain Zak Westlake misses out.

“Curtis is dual-registered and trains with us on the Thursday but he got a late call from me on Tuesday to play, so thanks to Rich Hunter (Bassett manager) for letting him play for us,” said Webb, whose only absentee is captain and central defender Zak Westlake.

“He’s another keeper with a bright future.”
