FAIRFORD Town kept their dream of a treble alive on Saturday as they romped to a 5-0 success in the third round of the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup at Division One East outfit Finchampstead.

With the Cinder Lane side, who won this competition last season, leading the way in Division One West, boss Gareth Davies could have been forgiven if he decided to keep his focus on the league crown.

However, the Gloucestershire FA Trophy semi-finalists, went on the rampage once more to make it 22 goals in their last three games.

Nathan Blackford led the way for Fairford with a brace, while Sam Ockwell, Levi Cox and Josh Morse completed the scoring.

And while Davies was pleased to see the goals continue to flow, it was his back-line that impressed him the most.

“The front six players, did what they do but I thought the back five were superb,” said Davies.

“Johnny Aitkenhead has come in (from Highworth Town) and has added that experience to the back-line, which is what we needed.

“Now with the squad that we have got, we are able to put out strong sides every week. Now we have got this far, we just want to keep on going.”

With Fairford in cup action, Davies was pleased to hear that their league nearest rivals, Hook Norton, were not able to close the gap, leaving the leaders requiring seven more points from their final five games to take the title.

“The chairman (Stuart Pike) told me that Hook Norton had lost when I walked into the bar after the game,” Davies said.

“But it doesn’t change a thing for me, we just have to keep winning matches – we can’t take our foot off the gas.

“We have got a cup semi-final on Tuesday night (against Bristol Manor Farm in the GFA Trophy) and then we have to go to Ciren (Cirencester Town Development) on Saturday, and they are no mugs.”

Elsewhere in the Supplementary Cup, New College’s run came to an abrupt end as they lost 5-1 at Penn and Tylers Green.

Purton moved up to third place in Division One West as Ed Herbert’s hat-trick sent Justin Miller’s men on their way to a 7-2 success at bottom club Woodstock Town.

Joe Hiscock, who was also booked, Ollie Hunt, Shannon Pocock and Aaron Stevens added the others for the Red House men, while Robert Gosling replied with a brace for the hosts.

Shrivenham claimed a 1-0 success at Tytherington Rocks to keep them eighth in the table.
