CHIPPENHAM Town chief Mark Collier has set his sights on breaching the 100-point barrier in their quest to be crowned Southern League Premier Division champions.

A 3-1 victory for the table-topping Bluebirds away at Chesham United on Saturday – coupled with draws for second-placed Leamington and Hitchin Town in third – saw Collier’s side strengthen their position at the head of the table.

Town are now up to 91 points, six clear of Leamington, however the Warwickshire side do have a game in hand so Collier thinks his team may need to reach a triple figure points tally if they are to clinch the crown.

“We thought that 90-odd points would win it but maybe it won’t now, maybe you have to get to 100 to win it,” said Collier, who’s side ensured that they will at least finish inside the top five with the win at Chesham.

“Leamington are in great form themselves, they are right in amongst it.

“The target for us is five more wins and that takes us to 106 points and if we do that, we win the league, there is nobody that can catch us.

“That is the plan but we want to take it one game at a time – I know it is old talk but that is all we can do. We want to win next week and we will just see where that takes us.

“We know that we can’t control anybody else’s results, we can only look after our own, so it was pleasing that both Leamington and Hitchin dropped points – it was a good day for us.

“We have certainly got the bit between our teeth currently and we are looking quite strong.”

All the action took place in the opening 25 minutes at Chesham, with Chippenham breaking the deadlock after just two minutes through David Pratt.

Will Richards then made it 2-0 after 13 minutes but Ryan Blake hit back for the Generals almost immediately.

However, the cushion was back to two goals in the 24th minute when Jake Andrews lashed home the Bluebirds’ third goal from the penalty spot and that is how it stayed until the final whistle.

“It was a difficult day because the wind was blowing straight down the ground, the pitch wasn’t great and it wasn’t that great a game but once you are 3-1 up, you have to try to see it out,” said Collier.

“We said to the players at half-time, if we continued to defend properly, we would see the game out.”
