SPORT 4 Pinehurst continued their charge for the Division One title in the Swindon & District League with a 6-2 win over Chiseldon.

Bill Roberts’ men sit one point and one place below leaders Lyneham, who they host on Saturday, but have two games in hand on the table toppers.

And while the Pinehurst chief knows that if his team win all their remaining games they will be crowned champions, the next three fixtures – Lyneham and back-to-back games with third-placed Lower Stratton – will define their season.

“In all honesty, the league is ours to lose,” Roberts said. “If we win all our games, we will have won the title.

“But it is really tight at the top, we have got three big games coming up and if we drop points, we could find ourselves dropping down the table.

“We are a young side, made up of lads from Pinehurst, so to win the division in just our second season would be a fantastic achievement.”

Against Chiseldon, pacy winger Jon Peachey bagged his third hat-trick in three games, with Ryan and Aaron Welland as well as Brad Stanners also on target. Luke Robinson and Luke Mitchell replied for the visitors.

Leaders Lyneham also hit six as they thrashed Wroughton Reserves, who had Darryll Chambers on target, 6-1 away from home.

Lower Stratton returned from Moredon with a 6-1 success, while Haydon Wick and Stratton Junior shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Wick took the lead when a corner from Paul Tewkesbury picked out Yasuhiro Onho and he slotted home, however, the hosts drew level a minute before half-time.

After the break, Haydon took the lead when Marc Bailey played the ball to Tewkesbury on the edge of the area following a corner and he drilled past the keeper.

But the hosts managed to grab a late equaliser to finish with a share of the spoils.

In the other game in Division One, Core Construction edged a five-goal thriller against Marlborough Town Reserves 3-2.

Premier Division leaders Bassett Bulldogs saw their title hopes suffer a huge blow as they went down 2-1 at home to Swindon Spitfires, who had Phil Legace and Anthony Collett on target.

Deers Leap gave their slim hopes of being crowned champions a boost when they claimed a 2-1 win at Sportz Central.

Jake Kitchin’s brace was not enough for FC Dorcan as they fell to a 4-2 loss at home against Ramsbury, who saw Gareth Brown hit a hat-trick and Max Derrick net one.
