SECOND-HALF goals from Connor Waldon and Josh Parsons saw Swindon Supermarine come from behind to claim a 2-1 win away at Yate Town and climb back into the top six in the Division One South & West table.

Marine’s play-off ambitions suffered a set-back last weekend when they lost 1-0 at home to Paulton Rovers but victory at the Jelf Stadium has at least brought them back to within five points of those positions with four games to go.

Jack Ball’s header saw Marine behind at the break but Dave Webb’s troops raised their game after the restart and Waldon restored parity seven minutes into the second period before Parsons completed the comeback 12 minutes from time.

Webb conceded there was a bit of a hangover from the previous weekend in the early stages at Yate but the Marine chief was proud of how they shook that off to grind out a crucial win.

“It was never going to easy, it was another warm day on a bobbly pitch,” said Webb.

“No team is going to make it easy for you. We deserve to be where we are in the league and every team wants to upset you.

“We reached a very low level last week and we weren’t really at the level we expect to be in the first half on Saturday either but credit to the players, they dug in and in the second half, we played some of the football we are capable of and we deserved to go on and win the game “Two good goals from Connor Waldon and Josh Parsons were enough and it keeps it going for us – we needed that.”

Callum Parsons missed the game through suspension following his red card against Paulton last weekend, while Ryan Morgan and Joe Selman were absent through injury and illness respectively, so Webb was delighted with the response.

“There were a few players not available with illness, suspension and injury so we were a bit threadbare, but the players that were on show did really well,” said Webb.

“Credit to the lads, we had to change things around and it was difficult but we showed a bit of resilience and it was a much-needed three points.”
