GARETH Davies is confident that lowly Milton United will face the backlash from Fairford Town’s weekend failure to wrap up the Division One West title tonight.

Town’s surprise 3-2 defeat at Cirencester Town Development delayed the party for Davies’ men, but the celebrations can get going if victory is achieved at Cinder Lane.

With a massively better goal difference than either of their two title rivals, Abingdon United and Hook Norton, the latter of whom host Clanfield 85 tonight, three points means realistically that it will be ‘job done’ for Fairford should they come out on top against their fifth-from-bottom rivals.

Davies admits there were some crestfallen players after Saturday’s slip-up, but has backed them to deliver the goods at the second time of asking on home turf.

“Hopefully we might see a different animal (against Milton),’’ said the manager. “I’d rather have had it done and dusted, so we could relax a bit but the good thing is that it (the Milton game) will be around so quickly for us.

“We’ve got to get on with it. The players will know what needs to be done and we’ll get those three points sooner rather than later.

“The dressing room was eerily quiet (on Saturday) so it obviously means a lot to them and I think we will see that on Tuesday.’’

Davies should be able to welcome back Ryan Stanners for tonight’s clash, but the club are on Chris Jackson who has an ankle problem.
