TAWNY Owl will look to complete the first leg of a league and cup treble this weekend, fresh from winning their top-of-the-table clash at Bassett Bulldogs 2-0.

The reigning Swindon & District League champions moved within two points of top spot in the Premier Division on Saturday after strikes from Dave Slattery and Lewis Waldon settled matters at Beversbrook.

Now Owl, who have five games in hand over new leaders Deers Leap, can focus on their Wiltshire FA Junior Cup final with Trowbridge & District League Division One high-flyers Luxol St Andrews at Westbury United’s Meadow Lane ground.

“It would be brilliant if we could win the county cup,” said Tawny boss Anthony Pascarella, whose side will face Old Town United in the Swindon Advertiser Cup final.

“We won it before we took a year out (in 2015 when we were Fratellos) and we missed out last year.

“The county cup is always the harder one to win because you are playing sides you do know too much about.

“We know that they (Luxol) will be a good side, they are going well in their league and have also reached a cup semi-final and this final.”

On the performance against Bulldogs, Pascarella added: “Their keeper was outstanding.

“We had a number of chances, we either just couldn’t finish or their goalie made some fantastic saves.”

Tawny now have their sights on Deers Leap after they jumped above Bulldogs at the summit following their 4-0 success at basement side Spectrum.

A Daniel Knight double and strikes from Tom Ballard and Ryan Baxter helped North Swindon to a 4-2 victory over Swindon Spitfires, while Sportz Central claimed a 1-0 win over Ramsbury and FC Dorcan won 3-2 at Village Inn.

Sport 4 Pinehurst climbed to the summit of Division One after they won their top-of-the-table clash with Lyneham.

The visitors began the day on top, but Pinehurst took over thanks to their 3-1 win with Jonathan Peachey notching twice and Aaron Welland bagging the other.

Lower Stratton were unable to close the gap on Lyneham as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Wroughton Reserves, who had Daryll Chambers and Jamie Pidgeon on target.

Swindon AFC secured only their second league win of the campaign as they beat mid-table Moredon 4-2 with Callum Wells netting twice, Nicos Manolis and Dion Titcombe also getting themselves on the scoresheet for the victors.

New Town All Stars returned home with three points after their 2-1 success at Haydon Wick, while Stratton Junior were edged out by the odd-goal in five by Chiseldon.
