SWINDON Supermarine chief Dave Webb had to settle for a point despite his team holding a two-man advantage over Tiverton Town at the Webbswood Stadium.

Initially it looked like Marine could be in for a long afternoon as the visitors took the lead six minutes into the contest when Levi Landricombe slotted the ball past Connor Johns.

One then quickly became two as a poor backpass handed the ball over to Tiverton’s Landricombe, who was subsequently fouled by the Supermarine stopper in the 10th minute.

Striker Owen Howe made no mistake from the resulting penalty as his side claimed a 2-0 lead.

However Marine were handed a lifeline when goalscorer Howe was handed a straight card 22 minutes in for an apparent stamp.

Supermarine took their chance to get back into the game when Joe Shepherd rattled his effort in off of the post just before the half-hour mark.

Five minutes after the restart Tiverton were reduced to nine men as Jamie Price was given a second yellow card.

But unlike the first half, Supermarine were forced to wait for their second goal as Ryan Morgan bundled in an equaliser with 10 minutes left to play.

The result leaves Webb’s troops in sixth place, seven points shy of the Division One South & West play-off places.

But while it is unlikely his side will make the play-offs this year, the Marine manager has vowed to keep fighting until it is mathematically impossible.

“We made the worst possible start when we conceded two bad goals,” said Webb.

“You can’t do that against the top sides and to be honest I feared the worst.

“But credit to the players. we came back brilliantly and should have won the game.

“It’s probably a reflection on our season because we haven’t been good enough at home to kick on and be where we wanted to be.

“Obviously the top five is still there for us if Evesham lose all their games and we win all of ours.

“That’s a big ask but all we can do now is take care of our games and try to win them.

“Hopefully Evesham slip up and you never know.

“Until it is mathematically beyond us we need to keep trying to win.

“We showed a lot of character to come back the way we did. It’s never easy to play against 10 or nine.

“They put everything behind the ball but fair play to them. They dug in for a point but I’m disappointed we weren’t able to win the game really. ‘’ Supermarine will now have to travel to Shortwood United for their next game on Easter Saturday.

Meanwhile in the Toolstation League First Division, Malmesbury Victoria picked up a 3-2 away win over Almondsbury UWE.

Goals from Andrew Baker, Danny Cook and George Peare sealed Malmesbury’s third win in their last four games.
