SHREWTON United are doing all they can to spoil Wroughton’s party in the Wiltshire League according to manager Scott Young.

The Shrews sit top of the league on goal difference following their 5-1 win over Malmesbury Victoria Development and Wroughton being held to a 2-2 draw away to Ludgershall Sports.

However, with only one game of their Wiltshire League campaign remaining and Wroughton with three to go, Young appreciates that matters are out of their own hands and they are relying on other results to go their way.

James Dolman opened the scoring for the visitors before Dean Smith doubled the advantage before the break.

Dean Smith then proceeded to bag himself a hat-trick in the second half, one coming from the penalty spot when Lukasz Labedzki was felled in the box, Malmesbury scoring a late consolation.

“It was a very good result,” said Young.

“It was a tricky place to go and the pitch was very bobbly to say the least but I think that is what happens when they have so many games on it - I think they have seven teams playing on it.

“We’re doing all we can to keep the pressure on Wroughton.

“They have got three tricky ties. Melksham and Trowbridge are both away from home for them.

“Ideally, it would be nice if Melksham did us a favour. They could still technically finish second if we slipped up on Saturday.

“It will take it into the Trowbridge game and they have already beaten Wroughton this season so there is a possibility there for us.

“We have done all we can now. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes halfway through the season that probably cost us the league.

“The most important thing going into this weekend is the win but then it could come down to goal difference, so we must be clinical.”

Elsewhere, 10th place Corsham Town reserves ran out 4-1 winners at home to Cricklade Town, while Trowbridge Town were 2-1 victors over Bromham.

n Cricklade Town are looking for a new manager or player manager for next season after Luke Alford was forced to step down due to work and family commitments.

The committee will stay on to support the new manager and any team they wish to bring in.
